Symbolic start in the Europoort Rotterdam – Construction is officially underway

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, the first pile was driven into the ground for Xycle’s innovative recycling facility in the Europoort area of Rotterdam. A special moment that marked the official start of construction for Xycle's very first commercial plant. This cutting-edge recycling facility – strategically located in the Europoort – will become a key player in the circular economy, transforming 21,000 tonnes of hard-to-recycle plastic into high-quality, renewable raw materials each year.

First pile driven for Xycle’s innovative recycling facility in the Europoort

The festive kick-off took place at the construction site on the Rijndwarsweg, where the project team, partners and stakeholders gathered to mark the occasion by driving the first pile into the ground. Before the pile was driven, guests were invited to sign or write their name on the foundation block – a shared symbolic moment we were proud to be part of, together with the Xycle team and other contributors. In total, 1,025 piles will be driven into the ground to form the foundation of a forward-looking, technologically advanced plant.
